About CrossFit Derby

Learn Why CrossFit Derby Is The Right Gym For You

We know joining a gym can be intimidating, which is why we wanted to explore what CrossFit is, and how it can benefit you, as well as why the CrossFit Derby family is the one for you.

What Is CrossFit?

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity. The constant variation provides a different stimulus for the body each session, which results in a constant increase in fitness levels.

The functional movements we use are “amplifications” of the big, everyday movements a physically active person makes. Many of us have sedentary jobs however, so CrossFit workouts provide a way to maintain regular exercise while moving with power and efficiency. The movements are performed at high intensity because intensity is essential for fitness to improve. This means getting out of breath and feeling fatigue during the workouts performed. Intensity is relative to each person and our coaches at CrossFit Derby are very experienced in working with a variety of people with different abilities to help them perform safely and within their limits. But ask any of our members what CrossFit is and they might give you different answers. One of these will be that it is simply incredible fun!

You will find you make great progress simply because doing CrossFit is enjoyble and exciting – you never know what the workout of the day is before it is posted on our site and there are loads of great physical skills and challenges to be learned whether you are a beginner or an elite athlete. Along with all of this you become part of a supportive, tight knit community that can literally achieve anything.

How does a CrossFit workout work?

Every workout is different, and since you will rarely do the same thing twice, you are less likely to lose interest or get bored in the same way that you might by doing identical circuits at a gym three days a week. Also, because our workouts are rarely more than 1 hour long, they can fit into even the busiest schedules, and we offer a range of different times to train. Perhaps most importantly, our athletes have seen dramatic changes in their speed, strength, performance and body composition.

What CrossFit gear do I need?

There are a lot of accessories to make life a little easier in CrossFit, but to start with, you won’t need anything but your body and some water (You’ll need that!), and a desire to improve and learn something new.

What CrossFit does to your body.

CrossFit workouts are varied functional movements, like pushing, pulling, squatting, lifting and running, performed at a high intensity.

At CrossFit Derby, you won’t find any machines or mirrors – instead, you will find kettlebells, barbells, medicine balls, sleds and tons of open space for running, jumping, climbing, lifting and throwing. The workouts themselves are all completely scalable, which means that a new participant and a CrossFit veteran can complete the same workout with changes in load and intensity. CrossFit workouts will deliver phenomenal fitness results that will help you meet your sporting goals or help you function better in your everyday life. As a result, your body changes for the better from the development of your muscles, and mimicking the body’s natural movements makes daily activities easier.
